Interim CFO

Job description

Position: Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: Germany
Contract Type: Interim / Fixed-term

About the Company
Our client is a private equity-backed Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO) in Germany. The business is experiencing strong growth and requires a hands-on finance leader to professionalise the finance function, strengthen governance, and support the next stage of value creation.

Role Overview
The Interim CFO will be responsible for building a best-in-class finance organisation, implementing robust reporting and controls, and partnering with management and investors to deliver performance transparency. This is a key role in ensuring the business is scalable, exit-ready, and aligned with PE expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and professionalisation of the finance function, including systems, processes, and team build-out.

  • Establish reliable monthly reporting, KPIs, and management information to PE standards.

  • Drive budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes to support rapid growth.

  • Partner with the CEO and investors on value creation initiatives, M&A opportunities, and strategic projects.

  • Ensure strong governance, compliance with German GAAP/IFRS, and risk management practices.

  • Implement cash flow management and working capital optimisation measures.

  • Develop and mentor the finance team to ensure sustainability beyond the interim mandate.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience as CFO or senior finance leader in a PE-backed environment, ideally in CDMO, pharma, life sciences, or related manufacturing sectors.

  • Strong track record in finance build: creating reporting frameworks, scaling finance functions, and delivering investor-grade transparency.

  • Excellent understanding of German GAAP and IFRS.

  • Hands-on, pragmatic leader able to combine strategic vision with operational execution.

  • Fluent in German and English.

  • Duration: 6–12 months, with flexibility depending on transaction or transformation timelines.
