CFO
Job description
Position: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Permanent
Start Date: Q4 2025 / Q1 2026
Location: Hamburg, Germany - hybrid with regular on-site presence
Our client, a lower mid-market B2B SaaS business headquartered in Hamburg and backed by a leading private equity fund, is seeking to appoint its first permanent CFO. The business is scaling rapidly, with a strong recurring revenue base, ambitious international growth plans, and the backing to professionalise its finance function.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious finance professional to step into their first CFO role. The ideal candidate will bring 5–8 years of robust financial training gained in Big Four, investment banking, or similar environments, combined with exposure to technology or SaaS businesses. The role requires a hands-on, commercially minded leader who can partner with the CEO and investors to drive value creation.
The CFO will:
- Build and professionalise the finance function, introducing processes, controls, and systems appropriate for a PE-backed SaaS growth business.
- Lead financial planning and analysis, delivering accurate reporting, SaaS metrics, and forward-looking insights to management and investors.
- Partner with the CEO and senior leadership to support strategic initiatives, including international expansion and product-led growth.
- Oversee cash management, working capital, and funding requirements to support growth.
- Drive the implementation of scalable systems and tools (ERP, BI, SaaS metric dashboards) to support operational excellence.
- Act as the key financial interface with the private equity fund, auditors, advisors, and other external stakeholders.
- Prepare the business for future value-creation milestones, including M&A and exit processes.
Candidate Requirements
- 5–8 years’ experience in finance, ideally from Big Four audit/transaction services, investment banking, or a fast-growth SaaS/tech environment.
- Strong grounding in accounting, financial analysis, and corporate finance.
- Exposure to SaaS metrics (ARR, churn, CAC, LTV, net revenue retention) and/or subscription-based business models.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership, build processes, and drive improvement in a high-growth setting.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to partner effectively with both management and investors.
- Fluent in English and German.
